This is an earlier post than usual, but tonight will be busy with dinner at a local taco shop, our last team time, and packing up to leave tomorrow.
This has been a full week of service, conversations, experiences, meaning, laughter, and fun. Today we finished up the work we had planned to do with painting at CDL and pouring one last concrete slab at La Hermosa Orphanage. Then this afternoon the students have spent time at the orphanage with the children, tidying shirts, games, and pizza.
Tonight we will get lunch at a local taco shop before coming back to camp for the night.
Tomorrow we will plan to depart La Hermosa Orphanage by 10 am. Last week the border crossing only took us 45 min. We are still planning on a 2-hour wait, but hoping for 45 min. Once crossed we will stop for lunch and then if we have time we will stop at a park close to the airport. Once crossed I will email everyone that we have arrived in the U.S.A. Then we ask that you monitor the flight status on your end.
Just a reminder…if your student packed at sleeping back, please remember to get it!!! Last week we had two students leave behind a sleeping bag and pillow. So please pick up your sleeping bag.
So here are questions to consider asking your student about the week:
- What was it like crossing the border?
- What was the border wall like?
- What was your favorite work site, and why?
- Who did you meet from Mexico and share a little bit about who they are?
- What is something you learned?
- What was the most impactful part of the trip?
It has been a joy hosting your students this week. I hope they have learned a lot and gotten more out of the trip other than just being more grateful. We have had some good conversations and they have met some incredible people.
Thanks again for trusting us with your student for the week!
I am not sure if I will get to any photos tonight. We will put together a link where you and your students can get photos from the trip.
