Hey Everyone!!
First, let me say that these students have been working really hard. Today they woke up with soar and tight muscles, but in great spirits and having a lot of meaningful fun. The people we are working with have been so grateful for the work and dedication of your students. You would be proud.
Team Canyon – Today we had a different team of students go to the canyon (the old Tijuana dump). For many students, I think it is hard to get their mind around the level of poverty they witnessed. One of our leaders said they were moving a little dirt just to put a wall up and all they dug was a little dirt and then garbage. People here use whatever they can find to build their house, make fences. Most don’t have running water and very little electricity. We continued working on Martita’s house. Yesterday’s crew was tearing down the old front part of her house and today we began the rebuild. Students painted, pounded nails, and framed a few walls. The other crew prepared spaghetti for the community. They ran out of food, but not before everyone who came received food. Many children came through the doors after school. Tomorrow the rest of the students who have not been able to go to the canyon will go tomorrow morning.
Team Sals – Students continued moving dirt and rocks. If you see the video on youtube, it is the house with the rock walls half built. The students spent time leveling land and moving rocks. The great thing about these students that even though it is hard work, they are finding ways to have fun, laugh, and still get work done.
Team Open Arms – I just received word from one of the directors that by Friday we will have gotten done two weeks of work in this one week! wow! Students continue to improve their hammering skills. It is also fun to watch them work together to problem solve certain issues that might arrive.
Tomorrow is BEACH DAY!!! We will work a half day in the morning and then head to the beach for much needed and earned R&R. It has been so foggy and overcast here, that we are hoping and praying for sun tomorrow.
One of the topics we have been discussing is “Who are you?” It is a question we are all trying to answer as we grow in life. But we have been talking about the lies we tend to believe based on what other people tell us. Many times we can believe these lies as truth. We have talked about how God’s love is not dependent on anything we do or don’t do. He loves us simply because we are alive.
Tomorrow blog will be much later as we will be at the beach followed by dinner at La Fondas and team time.
Also, we have a new youtube video up. Sorry, it’s a little long.
