Today was an eventful day. From the jammed packed Oakland Airport, getting everyone checked in, on the plane and then finally to San Diego.
After we stopped for lunch at exit 10, we crossed the border into Mexico. We stopped at Tijuana Playas to talk about the border wall and all that it entails.
It’s always amazing to me how the life on the Mexico side is alive and vibrant with the sound mariachi bands, the smell of tacos and churros, families playing in the beach while just on the other side of the walls (there are 2), is nothing but open land and no one, other than border patrol in site.
Mexico has a way of embracing the good, the bad, the joy and the heartbreak in ways we can learn.
After some time at Tijuana Playas, we headed south to La Hermosa Orphanage, home to around 35 children. We got a tour and then our first amazing Mexican meal.
Tomorrow we will divide into work crews with jobs here at the orphanage as well as a project at a local house.
