Sore, tired, yet in great spirits…I think this would describe how everyone is feeling. This has been a great week. The students have worked really hard, has done everything that has been asked of them, and with a great spirit of love and service.
Today we continued working on the Open Arms house. We framed two more walls and set one of them. Students are getting better with their hammer skills. These students (all of them in fact) have worked really well together, even though they are in different grades, different friend groups and different states. It has been fun to watch them get to know each other.
Sals team continued digging trenches for interior walls and another group went and got another 500 bricks. We set up an assembly line and handed each other the bricks into the trailer and then again at Sal’s house into a brick pile.
Then we headed to lunch at Open Arms. The Mexican food we have eaten this week has been amazing, all prepared by the OA cooks. Every meal we purchased also purchases a meal for the kids at the day care for this week and next. Pretty cool.
After lunch we got a tour of the Siloe Wellness Center. Be2Live had a small part in helping build this wellness center in La Mision. Past groups have worked hard pouring concrete, moving dirt, rocks, and roof tiles. It is great to see how the hard work some of these students put into the clinic is no saving peoples lives.
The beach today was a little cold, but it didn’t prevent the majority of the students from jumping into the ocean. I honestly don’t know how students do this. I was cold watching them. Later we had dinner at the iconic La Fonda’s restaurant. It is a restaurant we have visited on almost every trip in our 10 years. Unfortunately the balcony is currently closed.
Tomorrow is our final work day. We will continue working on the OA house and we will begin another project of clearing land for a future school for children with slight learning disabilities. More on this project tomorrow.
Also tomorrow night I will have a list of questions to ask the students when they get home so you can be better informed.
The Youtube video should be up on our channel, so check it out.
Lastly, we, Be2Live is celebrating our 10 year anniversary on August 24th, and we would love for you to join us. There is more information on our website and you can purchase tickets by texting B2LTIX to 51555 (the same text number you receive from us).
Till tomorrow!
